We are proud to announce, that for the first time ever, the Verb Benders will be sending a poet to represent our slam venue at Womxn of the World Poetry Slam! This is an annual international tournament featuring the best womxn poets in spoken word, from all around the globe! 2024’s tournament will be held in Baltimore, MD from March 27th to 30th.
To determine the poet who will be representing Verb Benders, we will be having a qualifier. The qualifier is open to womxn and identifying womxn and will be held on December 15th at The Venue on 35th St, Norfolk, VA 23508. Doors open at 6:30, we will get started promptly at 7:30 and it is $10 at the door. Please keep in mind that we have a small venue, so seating is very limited, so get there when the doors open!
The winner of this slam, will have their registration fee covered, and will receive a small amount to put towards traveling expenses. The second place winner will be the alternate, in case the first place winner is unable to go. There will only be 12 registration spots for this slam. The registration fee is $20 and is non-refundable. (There will be a waiting list if all slots fill up.)
RULES
- 4 time specific rounds: 1st Round: 1 minute, 2nd Round: 2 minutes, 3rd Round: 3 minutes, 4th Round: 4 minutes. Each round has a grace period of 10 seconds. If there is a time penalty, .5 is deducted for every 10 seconds over the time.
- The cut for each round: 12/10/8/4 (if we don’t get a full lineup, the cut will be adjusted on the day of the slam)
- No props, music accompaniment, or costumes
- Scoring: All rounds cumulative
- All work has to be original
